Steel and metal structures
A steel structure carries a heavy load at low self weight. Its high strength to weight ratio gives longer clear spans without intermediate columns, lighter foundations and more usable space inside the building — often the deciding factor for halls, canopies and warehouses.
The second reason for steel is speed. Members are fabricated in the shop while site preparation runs in parallel; on site only erection and connection remain. Seasonal and weather conditions have less effect on the schedule, and the building is under roof far sooner.
Steel structures are flexible and modular. A building can later be extended, built onto, or partly dismantled and relocated, and openings for new doors, windows or services are handled without breaking the load bearing system.
